Most of what a league’s fans see is the public site: the calendar, the standings, a player’s page, the leaders. Admins live in the scoring app and the back office and rarely look at those pages the way a visitor does. So we did it for them. We opened the Yerevan Amateur Cup at evncup.bbstats.am on a 390 px phone and a 1366 px laptop, clicked through every public page as someone who had never seen it, and wrote down twenty things. Nine of them shipped on 16 October. This is what changed, with the screenshots we took before and after. Everything here applies to every league on bbstats, not just this one.

Quick Takeaways
| Change | What a visitor notices |
|---|---|
| Calendar season label | Every game row names the championship it belongs to, not the league’s first season. |
| Photo fallback | Players without a photo show their team crest instead of grey initials, on the players list, leaders, awards, compare and the player page. |
| Player page season | “Season Averages · envcup 2026-2027”; a selector appears for players with more than one season; the advanced stats are three equal tiles. |
| Leaders | Ranks 2–10 are whole-row links with a chevron; the #1 card shows the crest when there is no photo. |
| Game page PDF | Moved out of the tab row into the header, next to the status badge. |
| Cookie banner | About a tenth of a phone screen instead of a fifth; two equal buttons. |
| Home page | A season pill under the hero: “envcup 2026-2027 · Active”. |
The Calendar Named the Wrong Season
This was the first thing we saw and the most misleading. Every row on the Calendar carried a small grey line under the time reading “evncup 2025-2026”. The games were from October 2026 and belonged to the 2026-27 season. The line was printing the league’s name, which on bbstats is also the name of its first season, rather than the championship the game is actually scheduled in.
Each row now resolves the name from the game’s own championship. For a league with one season nothing looks different; for a league in its second season, or one running several divisions, every row is now labelled correctly.
One Rule for Players Without a Photo
Amateur leagues rarely have a headshot for every player. On this league 109 of 182 players had none, and the players list was a column of identical grey circles with two letters in them. Two players named Arkadi Arakelyan, on different teams, had the same “AA” circle. On the Leaders page the number-one card, which is meant to be the showcase, was a large “HK” box.
There is now one rule everywhere a player picture appears: photo, then team crest, then initials. The crest sits on a dark pad, tinted with the team colour where we know it. It is applied to the players list, the Leaders page, the Awards page, Compare, the player page header and the playoff series top performer. One place keeps initials on purpose: the roster on a team’s own page, where the same crest on every row would say nothing.
The Player Page Now Says Which Season
The player page opened with a card titled “Season Averages” and never said which season. For a player in a second season there was no way to see the first. And on a wide screen the advanced block put PIR on the far left and TS% and eFG% on the far right, with nothing in between.
Three changes:
- The Season Averages and Game Log headers carry the season name: “Season Averages · envcup 2026-2027”.
- A player with games in more than one season or division gets a season selector next to the header. Picking a season reloads the averages, filters the game log, and keeps the choice in the address so the link can be shared. The page opens on the season of the player’s most recent game.
- PIR, true shooting and effective field goal percentage are three equal tiles, the same rhythm as the points, rebounds and assists row above them, with PIR highlighted. The per-36-minutes line stays folded below.
Leaders You Can Tap
On a phone the Leaders rows for ranks 2–10 looked like a table, and nothing suggested they went anywhere. The name was a link, but a name in the same colour as everything else does not read as one. The rows are now whole-row links with a chevron at the right edge; tapping anywhere on the row opens the player. The number-one card uses the same photo rule as above, so Hayk Karakhanyan’s card shows the Bullets crest.
Three Things That Were in the Way
The PDF button on the tab row
A finished game’s page has three tabs: Recap, Box score, Play-by-play. “Download PDF” sat on the same row, dressed like a fourth tab, and on a phone wrapped onto its own line. It is a secondary action, so it moved to the top-right corner of the game header, next to the status badge, as a small button that reads “PDF” on phones. Forfeits, which have no box score, do not show it.
The cookie banner
The cookie notice covered about a fifth of a phone screen, on every page, until the visitor dealt with it. Three lines of text and two buttons of different weight. On phones it is now one short line with a link to the Cookie Policy and two equal-weight buttons, Necessary only and Accept all. On a 390 × 844 screen it is now 82 px tall, about a tenth of the screen. The laptop banner is unchanged.
Which season is this?
The championship page says “2026-2027 · Active” under its title. The home page, where most visitors land, said nothing. A pill now sits directly under the hero with the season name and status, one per running season, or the most recent season when nothing is running, and links to the championship page.
What Is Still on the List
Eleven of the twenty items are still open. The ones we expect to do next: the Schedule Timeline on phones shows one day at a time; the standings table on phones drops the Points column; the game log on a player page scrolls sideways with no hint; the YouTube embed on a finished game takes the whole first screen before the recap; and “Fan sign-in” is the loudest element in the mobile header although most visitors never sign in. They will appear in the changelog as they ship.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to do anything for my league?
No. All of this is in the public site every league shares. If your players have photos, nothing about them changes; if they do not, their team crest is used.
Can I turn the crest fallback off?
Not at the moment. Upload a photo for a player and it takes precedence immediately.
Why does the roster on a team page still show initials?
Because every row would show the same crest. Initials at least differ from row to row.
When does the season selector appear on a player page?
When the player has recorded stats in more than one championship or division of your league. Until then the header just names the season.
Where did the Download PDF go?
Top-right of the game header, next to the “Finished” badge. On phones it is a small button that says “PDF”.
